   Traffic Calming - COMPLETED!!!

Quisenberry/Nalls - Residents along Quisenberry/Pram/Nalls have noted numerous cases of driver speed and other activities that are dangerous to the community. In particular, these incidents appear to be connected to after school and evening activities at Mount Vernon High School.

Woodley Drive - Residents along Woodley Drive have noticed an increase in speeding, particularly in the morning, just before MVHS opens (6:45 to 7:30am) and then again in the afternoon rush hour. Concern was expressed for children walking to and from school at those hours and others out walking their dogs. One canine fatality has been registered at the corner of Gibbs and Woodley. Several solutions were discussed at recent membership meetings, including speed humps and the possibility of an all-way stop sign at Gibbs and Woodley.

For both cases above, WHCA has formally requested the Mount Vernon District Supervisor begin the process to evaluate and hopefully install appropriate measures to calm our streets. The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) has performed a traffic survey on Quisenberry/Nalls and has determined that these streets qualify for traffic calming measures if the community supports the project.

The FCDOT transportation survey for Woodley Drive was deferred until after resurfacing.

Quisenberry/Nalls - A residential survey has been taken in support of a Task Force which would evaluate and recommend specific traffic calming measures. The signature rate of 75% was achieved to form the task force. Since the Mount Zephyr neighborhood has also experienced traffic problems on Mount Zephyr Drive and is also pursuing calming, Woodley Hills has teamed with Mount Zephyr to canvas the overlap in affected areas. In late August 2008, enough signatures were gathered on both the Woodley Hills and Mount Zephyr petitions for task force formation. The petitions have been turned over to FCDOT via the Supervisor’s office.

The next step has begun which is for the Task Force to make recommendations to FCDOT as to placement of speed tables, signage, etc., whatever has been decided and approved as a viable and satisfactory solution to FCDOT. More site visits are scheduled for February 2009 and the results will be reported here as well as the next CA meeting.

Stay tuned for more information as this process unfolds.

Woodley Drive Resurfacing - With the help of the Mount Vernon District Supervisor’s Office, VDOT agreed to re-evaluate the condition of Woodley Drive. Their assessment agrees with many residents who feel a complete resurfacing is necessary.  Hard work has now paid off - Woodley Drive will be repaired and resurfaced this year!
